DESCRIPTION:DHS/CISA All-Hazards Type III Communications Technician (COMT) Workshop\nJune 10-14\, 2019 \nCoosa County Emergency Communications District Office – Rockford\, AL \nCourse Overview:\nThe All-Hazards Communications Technician (COMT) course trains emergency responders on the practices and procedures common to radio communication technicians during all-hazards emergency operations. It will help communications technicians to work within the Incident Command System (ICS) organizational structure with standardized operational and technical procedures. The skills gained in this class will enable responders to plan\, deploy\, and provide technical support for the communications solutions used by the other organizations in the ICS. \nTarget Audience:\nThe COMT class is targeted for all local\, regional\, state and federal cross disciplinary emergency response professionals and coordination/support personnel with a communications\nbackground. Candidates should be members of a standing Incident Management Team or currently working in a position supporting communications as a technician for a local\, state\, or federal response agency. Additionally\, candidates for this training should have knowledge of: wired and wireless public safety communication technologies including radio\, telephone\, satellite\, and data; basic knowledge of communications and communication systems\, frequencies spectrum\, local topography\, and system site locations including knowledge of local\, regional\, and state communication plans\, and communications and resource contacts. \nPrerequisites:\nStudents will need to have taken the latest versions of the following prerequisite classes: \nIS-100 \nIS-200 \nIS-700 \nIS-800 \nRecommended courses:\nICS-300 \nICS-400 \nCourse Length:\n5 Days – 40.0 Hours \nIn addition to registering for this course through the AEMA Training Portal\, students will need to fill out a completed FEMA 119-25-1 General Application along with providing copies of prerequisite course certificates or an EMI IS transcript. Armed with good information\, people are empowered to make better decisions and thus contribute to the overall response goal of saving lives and protecting property. Personnel tasked with gathering\, verifying\, coordinating and disseminating public information at the federal\, state\, tribal\, local and territorial levels bear this considerable responsibility concurrently with other job assignments. These Public Information Officers (PIOs) must be provided with the opportunity to learn and practice the skills they will use on the job. \nThe Basic Public Information Officer Course (G0290) is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to start applying basic concepts underlying the Public Information Officer (PIO) role. This course can provide a basic understanding of the PIO function for those new to the position. \nThis is the second course in the Public Information Training Series. This course is delivered at the state\, local\, tribal and territorial governments. Other courses are conducted as resident courses at the Emergency Management Institute (EMI). The courses build on each other enhancing students? skills further at each level. This course uses Bloom?s Taxonomy as a guide to focus the course material to augment the knowledge and comprehension for new PIOs. \nThis course will consider the value of communication before\, during and after an incident. It will help PIOs identify critical audiences\, both internal and external. \nSelection Criteria: The primary audience for this training is individuals who have public information responsibilities as their main job or as an auxiliary function at the federal\, state\, local\, tribal or territorial level of government\, and in the private and nongovernmental sectors. \nCourse Objectives\n\nExplain why emergency public information is important during an incident. (Unit 1)\nRecognize the functional needs and challenges of different audiences. (Unit 1)\nDemonstrate the role and function of the PIO in both day-to-day and emergency environments. DESCRIPTION:MGT-346 EOC Operations & Planning for All-Hazards\nPresented by TEEX\nThis course provides personnel who could be assigned to or work in an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) the skills necessary to effectively plan for and manage a large-scale incidents by applying and implementing an all-hazards\, multi-disciplinary\, management team approach. The course places specific emphasis on the planning\, resource\, and information management processes. The course focuses on the key decision-making requirements within the Emergency Operations Center. The jurisdictional team will learn from the effects of incident decisions while working in an EOC using a simulated\, notional jurisdiction as they respond to the final days exercise. The course is delivered in your jurisdiction. The instructional team consists of coaches and mentors experienced in emergency management and incident response. The course uses a multi-discipline\, jurisdictional approach to accomplish the course objectives. The course adapts existing incident management systems\, best practices and procedures to the unique requirements of responding to all-hazards incident.\n\nPrerequisites\nThere are no prerequisites for this course. \nRecommended\nParticipants should have an intermediate level of understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS) and some experience in Incident Management. Completion of IS-775\, EOC Management and Operations Course is also recommended.
