SUMMARY:G0361: Flood Fight Operations
DESCRIPTION:Registration: Coordinate registration through State Training Officer – Training@ema.alabama.gov \nMore Info: https://www.tn.gov/tema/emergency-community/training/training-calendar/2023/8/22/g361–flood-fight-operations.html \nPOC: TEMA.Training@tn.gov \n\nCourse Description \nThis course is for emergency managers\, public works officials\, levee district representatives\, and others responsible for planning\, preparing\, and managing the response to a flood. Using a combination of lectures\, discussions\, activities\, and exercises\, the course will take participants through the complete process from well before the flood to clean-up afterwards. Officials from every community at risk of flooding should take this training. While this training emphasizes how to conduct a flood fight\, it provides information to help communities decide if a flood fight is possible and worth the effort and cost. Diagrams with materials lists and equipment and labor requirements to construct various types of temporary flood protection can be used to help determine if there is enough time and resources to protect the community. If the whole community cannot be protected\, then officials must decide where to concentrate their efforts to protect some areas and/or evacuate and relocate what they can. If a flood fight is undertaken\, it should be done the right way or the effort will be wasted. \nCourse Objectives \n\nSummarize the basic concepts related to riverine flooding.\nAnalyze flood threats for a given scenario.\nDetermine how to coordinate with multiple agencies\, groups\, and organizations to plan for riverine flooding.\nExplain the advantages and disadvantages of expedient flood works.\nDevelop a flood emergency plan for a given scenario.\nSummarize the considerations involved in managing a volunteer workforce.\nDescribe the processes\, equipment\, and considerations for monitoring flood works.\nExplain the challenges and resources associated with the recovery process.\nEvaluate the actions taken during a riverine flood event\, for a given scenario.\nList sources of recovery information.\nList the challenges faced by a community after a flood.\nDescribe the role of community and social agencies during the recovery process.\n\nPrerequisites: \nNone
