Seminar participants will discuss strategic- and executive-level issues and challenges related to preparing for\, responding to\, and recovering from a catastrophic incident. The venue provides an excellent opportunity to share proven strategies and practices and apply lessons-learned from past natural\, technological\, and human-caused disasters. \nThe seminar is a facilitated\, free-flowing discussion of the stresses of crisis leadership and decision-making gained from an examination of a selected case study of a catastrophic event. The seminar uses the case study to frame the discussion regarding ways to overcome leadership challenges before\, during and after an incident. Current case studies to choose from include: \n\nHurricane Harvey: Chaos on the Gulf Coast\nMayhem at Mandalay Bay\nThe Camp Fire: Crisis in California\nFear and Realities: Managing Ebola in Dallas\n\nThe final outcome of the seminar is the development of individual and/or jurisdictional action plans to guide improvement of emergency preparedness\, response and recovery actions.

DESCRIPTION:Register: https://teex.org/class/PER211/ \nPOC: Erin Coker\, 251-690-7512\, ecoker@mchd.org \nCourse Description \nWhat if a catastrophic event occurs? Will you be ready? Will you need a special level of protection? Is decontamination necessary? Do you have the right medications? \nPER 211\, Medical Management of Chemical\, Biological\, Radiological\, Nuclear and Explosives\, (CBRNE) Events answers these questions and more as you learn how to distinguish between different agents of concern that could be used in a major incident. \nThis course is a combination of facilitated discussions\, small-group exercises\, Human Patient Simulator hands-on scenarios\, and traditional classroom discussions. Exercises are conducted in a CBRNE scenario using both adult and pediatric Human Patient Simulators to reinforce classroom lectures and interaction. \nThis course promotes critical thinking skills while utilizing the RAPID-Care concept. The multi-discipline make-up of the participants helps to strengthen information sharing\, communications\, and medical surge capabilities.

Unfortunately\, many jurisdictions do not have a good understanding of this process and thereby fail to obtain\, and retain\, all the recovery revenue the community is eligible for. This course will provide senior leaders and staff planners with the key elements\, milestones\, and pitfalls to avoid when guiding a local jurisdictions recovery plans and operations.
